Operations Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1

Operations Management - Essay Example It is evident from the study that service and manufacturing supply chains share a lot more in common than the way they differ. In the process of delivering service products, manual processes that require human beings is involved. So, the solutions that use standardization and automation in improving operation efficiency in the service industry are less applicable. In addition to this, the labor intensive industries require more advanced scheduling systems so that they can coordinate effectively the prefaces of commonalities. The customers in the service industry play a great role in the delivery of services during the delivery process or even the service initiation process unlike in the manufacturing business. A good example is the electronic repair service. The involvement of customer delivery has an impact in service heterogeneity and impacts the service quality. The distinctive needs by the customers do change the content of each service product offered. As a result, it makes the service quality hard to measure and also monitor. The service which is provided by the service industries is often intangible for instance; education is one of the services. Intangibility leads to three issues: First, it’s difficult to score, secondly, it’s difficult to account for and thirdly, it’s difficult to identify suppliers. An intangible good as many believes can only be stored in books. This characteristic then shifts the focus of management from buffering by inventory to ensuring capacity flexibility and also managing capacity. One of the ways in which service procurement can better be controlled is by implementing a two-way match of the service receiving process. Here, the purchasing documents as well as the invoices are matched upon receiving and this process includes matching of the invoice, purchase order and shipping document in manufacturing. Unfortunately, in the service receiving process, counting of physical goods is a missing link. It becomes difficult in the start of the procurement process to identify the suppliers. The service buyer is not always sure of the specification of the service been procured. In addition to this, due to the intangibility of the service, you find that the service quality is very hard to measure (Andrew & Michael 2005). Simultaneity of production and consumption: Unlike in the case of the manufactured good, the services are created and consumed at the same time. You find that once the service has been created, there is no lead time in the middle to buffer against uncertainties. Combined with difficulties in storing these services, it isn’t surprising seen that a flexible capacity is vital to the success of a service supply chain (Andrew & Michael 2005). Customer supplier duality: A good example to explain duality is the electronic repair service. Here, you find that a customer supplies the malfunctioning electronics and in return,

What are some of the traits that a researcher has to have in order to successfully identify the appropriate research question? As an insider carrying out an action research in your organisation, and above all being in senior management, it is apparent that your participants- who in this case are your junior officers would find it difficult to participate in the research. What are some of the things are you supposed to consider as a researcher, in order to ensure there is no bias or intimidation of your juniors during the study? As a researcher and being a woman, it is possible that your research may be instigated by social issues that have dominated Kenyans for a long time. In a way, men, and especially in higher offices may see this as an incitement to women. How do you ensure that your study is scientific and free from bias? Before kicking off your research, you might have some hypothetical focus of your research. However, your data should be used to comprehensively elucidate your hypothesis. It is also evident that not all hypotheses are valid (Greenwood and Levin 2007). In this regard, in what ways can you ensure that your hypothesis

Philosophy of Gender Essay Example for Free

Philosophy of Gender Essay Some people aspire for successful lives, but I think success is overrated. What Im trying to do is living my life according to what I think is right. This means learning not only inside the classroom, but also outside. This is because I believe that education inside the classroom is very limited, which is why we should take the initiative to control our education.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   So I start my day by having breakfast. I also read the paper while eating. One must still be aware of the current political and social issues; we must never be isolated from society. These are the peoples issues, so we must not be isolated from what they are engaged in. We are working for a better society not for ourselves, but also for other people and the next generation, so we must be integrated with their issues.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   After breakfast, I go to school. In school, aside from attending class, I talk to the personnel. I ask their opinion on issues. I ask how their lives are. Through this way, I get a perspective on how they think. It is very interesting because they are usually very outspoken. Sometimes, I learn so much more from them than the textbooks they make us read in class.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   After class, I sometimes do volunteer work. I treat this as my â€Å"other class.† It supplements what I learn in class, and sometimes I get to apply what I learned inside the classroom as well. This class teaches me a lot, from relating with other people to critical thinking. Then I go home. I eat, study, then read. I may not have a lot of stuff, but I do have a lot of books.   I love reading. This opens my mind to a lot of possibilities, as well as solutions. I also love reading about great odds being surpassed by ordinary people.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   For a democracy to work, I think the citizens should be proactive people. For this to happen, they have to be trained even while in school. And this would entail letting them take control of their education, planning their own curriculum, carrying out their own lesson plan. When one speaks of a rational state of consciousness, one is talking of the state when ones mind is consciously doing something, like crossing the street. This kind of state requires ones full attention. When one speaks of non-rational consciousness, it is when ones mind is engaging in an activity that ones mind can do subconsciously; its whole attention is not on the activity. Habits and learned behavior fall under this state. An example would be tapping ones foot. And when one talks of the irrational state, it is the state of being unconscious, such as sleeping deeply. When in this state, one is unaware of what is happening. Have you had your heart broken? I have, once. I loved her, but she left me. Maybe she thought the world is a better companion. I do not know. It has been years.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Her name was Lilith. She was a remarkable being, all magic and desire. She had hair that was like waterfalls cascading down to earth; fluid, wild, breath-taking, hypnotizing. Her body was like the hills and mountains of the earth, curvaceous and fertile. She also provided the   intellectual stimulation that I needed. In my youth, I was too arrogant and stubborn to see that.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I had asked Father for a mate. I was lonely, and I had no one to share my experiences of naming and taking care of the creatures Father put under my care. I also wanted someone who would complement my efforts of organizing the whole of Creation, listening intently, while serving me a delicious meal. So I told the Father how lonely I was.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   He made a mate, and called it woman. I accepted her, and we lived together. I thought we were going to be happy together forever in paradise. I made her wait on me, serve me, obey me. I wanted her to only wander when I was with her. I wanted her to do all the domestic duties, because I was busy managing the Garden of Eden.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   We got along sometimes. Lilith, skilled with words, would contribute to my summary of what I did during the day, pointing out which names fitted the creature exactly. I thankfully used her suggestions, being inept with words, having been alone for some time. But mostly we fought day and night. We had different views on most things. She wanted to talk about how we feel; I could not successfully keep up with her analysis on why she is annoyed when the sheep just leaves its droppings lying around. She wanted to do things on her own; she could not understand that I was afraid of losing her, which is why I do not want her wandering off. She wanted the privilege of naming and managing the creatures in Creation; I could not make her understand that this was a job given to me, and she should try other activities in the Garden. She talked of how Eden could be made better; I would rather focus on the conditions now.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   So we fought. She would not do the things I told her were her duties as my wife. She said she wanted to do other things. She could not understand that her declining means undermining my authority. I know I should not have shouted at her and pulled her hair, but she made me angry. So when she left, I did not go looking for her. We have had disputes before, and though it is unlike her to not talk the problem over, I decided to pay no heed.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   But then, days after, she has not yet returned. So I told the Father of my concern. He sent messengers to her, but she would not yield. She would not come back to Eden, to me.

Problems Faced By Chinese Students

Problems Faced By Chinese Students This current research is titled as Problems faced by Chinese students in learning English language: A case study of S.M. Pei Yuan KAMPAR. This chapter consists of nine sections which is background of the study, statement of problem, purpose of study, significance of study, research question, scope of study, methodology, limitation and definition of key words. Background of the study Learning English language as second language (L2) is a big challenge for second language learners. Students still have problems with grammatical functions most of the time, although they have 11 years of English language exposure. Hence, this study focuses on the first language (L1) grammatical functions that interfere with Chinese learners of English as a second language. In Malaysia, there are numerous learners who have Chinese language as their L1. Most of them have problems in learning English language especially the English grammar. Learners are more or less likely to be influenced either positively or negatively by their first language. According to Hassan (2002), learners L1 background knowledge will affect them in learning English language especially in speaking and writing. As a result, the interference of L1 has become the major problem for Chinese ESL learners in the process of learning English especially in writing. Chinese ESL learners will get interference from their L1 when they write. It is because they will get influence by their L1 grammatical structure. Besides, the differences of syntactic between L1 and L2 also will affect them in writing. A few studies have reported that Chinese ESL learners will use their mother tongue to plan an outline before writing (Cumming, 1989; Jones Tetroe, 1987), transfer the writing context to English language by using their mother tongue (Edelsky, 1982; Friedlander, 1990; Lay, 1982). Second language learners will use their mother tongue in such circumstances and the interferences from L1 to L2 can either be positive or negative. Learners L1 will influence In this study, researcher will examines mother tongue influence on Chinese learners 1.2 Statement of Problem To learn English as second language, learners at least have to master four basic skills which are listening, reading, speaking and writing. However, seldom Chinese ESL learners can fully master the skills especially in writing. It is because the L1 interferes of English Language causes grammatical errors in the writing process. According to Nik Safiah (1978), this kind of grammatical error can be obviously found in Chinse ESL learners essay writing. The differences between L1 and L2 grammatical funtions intefere on students English essay writing process. As we know that mastering English Language is not an easy task especially for learners who study in Chinese independent schools. It is because they mostly will get inteferenced from their L1 and affect the way they learn English. As a result, Chinese learners will face difficulty in learning English grammatical functions such as tenses, subject-verb agreement or countable and uncountable nouns. Although Chinese learners have exposed to English language since primary one, the errors still occur. Chinese ESL learner make this kind of grammatical errors because they do not fully utilize the language even though they are able to use it. As the saying goes, practise makes perfect if the learners do not polish their English language even with years of exposure to the language, it will make no different. 1.3 Purpose of Study The purpose of this study is to find out if L1 interference have a significant effect on Chinese ESL learners English essay writing. Besides, this study is also to identify types of errors that Chinese ESL learners commonly make with English grammatical functions in the English essay writing. 1.4 Significance of Study Although learners learn English since the first day enter they school. However, most of them cannot fully master English as their second language. This study can help teachers to understand the problems that learners face when they are learning English. Besides, teachers can identify the influence of learners L1 in learning English and among the errors, they help to correct the grammar. This can help to reduce the inteference of L1 from happening to students learning English. 1.5 Research Questions Based on the problems and purpose mentioned in the earlier sections, this study will focus on two research questions which are: Does L1 interference have a significant effect on Chinese Learners English essay writing? What types of errors do Chinese ESL learners commonly make with English grammatical functions in the English essay writing? 1.6 Scope of Study The aims of this study is to identify the inteference of learners L1 in learning English language. Learner who study in S.M. PEI YUAN (P) KPR would be chosen as participate in the writing test. This study is using purposive sampling because only one class of Chinese ESL learners will be selected as participants. 1.7 Methodology This study will utilize a test to find out why Chinese ESL learners have problems in learning grammar. The learners will be asked to write a short essay. The topic of the essay is My family and learners have to write around 100-120 words each. This test will be distributed to the learners during their classes. Thus, they will take the test seriously and the results of the data collected will be more precise. 1.8 Limitation This study is designed for those whose first language is not English language and have L1 background knowledge. The survey will only be conducted with one class of learners who study in S.M. PEI YUAN (P) KPR. Thus, the result do not represented all Chinese ESL learners. 1.9 Definition of key words Inteference learners make an error in ther L2 which influnced by their L1 (Lott,1983:256).

One Of The Weaknesses Of The N :: essays research papers

One of the weaknesses of the novel, Pride and Prejudice is that the characters are divided up between those you like and those you don’t. Discuss. The characters found in the novel, Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, are easily contrasted. While some characters are likeable, we have others who are seen as silly and petty. Thus, we have strong differences between the various characters, who present to us the nature of society in those times. The reflection of the 19th Century through the characters, does not detract from the novel in any way, but actually increases its complexity.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Elizabeth, is clearly one of the most likeable characters in the novel. With her wit, charm and charisma she is in all senses an ‘accomplished woman’. Elizabeth is a strong-minded and courageous character, who was not afraid to stand up to others. â€Å" I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry.†, (Ch. 34) she exclaims in response to Darcy’s initial proposal. However, with all her strong-mindedness, her courage is still shown when she admits that she is wrong after she read Darcy’s letter of explanation and said: â€Å"But vanity, not love, has been my folly.† Through this realisation, we see that Elizabeth does not have the stereotypical nature of the majority of the people in her society, who, in contrast are unable to recognise their own faults.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Vastly contrasted to Elizabeth, we have the comical Mr.Collins, who lacks the self-reflection and self-awareness that is evident in Elizabeth. One trait Mr. Collins surely portrays is that of self-importance. It never occurred to him that Elizabeth would refuse his marriage proposal, and when she does, he can only say: â€Å"†¦it does not appear to me that my hand is unworthy your acceptance†¦Ã¢â‚¬ . Mr Collins’ proposal was extremely serious, as he really believed that he was a good catch, and therefore he was mortified when Elizabeth turned him down. Mr.Collins continually amuses the reader with his ironically ‘wise’ discussions in which he attempts to convey his prestige in Rosings. In a letter to the Bennets after the scandal with Lydia and Wickham, he writes: ‘I am truly rejoiced that my cousin Lydia’s sad business has been so well hushed up, and am only concerned that their living together before the marriages took place, should be so generously known.’ Mr.Collins is so ironically naive that he incessantly thinks that his opinion will be respected and deemed correct, by all. Vectors And Projectiles :: Free Essays

Vectors And Projectiles After successfully completing the first two videos of the Paul Hewitt series, I have been drawn to this course. The third video of the series reviews the concepts of vectors and projectiles. In this video Paul goes over a lot of previously stated formulas. The ideas of how fast or hoe far an object travels are restated. The idea of how fast an object travels is known as its velocity. The velocity is found by finding how far an object travels over a period of time. It may be easier to multiply the pull of gravity, which in a free falling object is ten meters per second accelerating, by the seconds the object remains it the air. The product will result in how fast the object was traveling. The idea of how far an object travels is known as the distance. The distance can be found by multiplying the amount of time an object is in the air by itself and then multiplying the results by five. For example, a rock dropped off a cliff takes five seconds to strike bottom. Multiply five times itself and then by five. The rock was dropped from 125 meters high. My favorite part of this video was when Paul explained about a time he went on a church trip hang gliding. The purpose of the story was to get a point across about dropping a rock off a cliff and being able to determine the distance to the bottom. The humor in this helped me grasp the concept of time. The humor was he dropped the rock and it rolled down because there was not a straight drop. The point he was trying to get was to throw the rock. Not to throw it up or down, but to throw it straight and it would strike the bottom at the same time as it would on a free fall.

Neverending Story Turning Points Essay

Turning Points Battle for the Ivory Tower In the novel The Neverending Story, the battle for the Ivory Tower between the two protagonists; Bastian and Atreyu is a very important event to the plot of the novel. They were battling for the possession of the Childlike Empress’ amulet, AURYN: Atreyu tried to defend himself with his own sword. But wielded by Bastian, Sikanda cut in two and struck Atreyu in the chest. Blood spurted from the gaping wound. Atreyu staggered back and toppled from the wall (Ende 370). The battle for the Ivory Tower is a very important event to the plot of the novel ecause one of the major characters in the story is stabbed. Bastian is so arrogant and selfish that he stabbed his own friend just so he could keep AURYN for himself and be the Childlike Emperor of Fantastica. Atreyu only took away the amulet so Bastian wouldn’t lose anymore of his memories. However, Bastian was too self absorbed to realize that Atreyu was only trying to help him. The ba ttle for the Ivory Tower is also very important to the development of Bastian as a character. Bastian went through a change as a result of the battle. He started out very angry at Atreyu:Bastian pointed his sword at the heap of flaming ruins and his voice cracked as he declared: â€Å"This is Atreyu’s doing! For I will pursue him to the end of The world! † (Ende 371-372). However, Bastian began to feel guilty about what he had done: Over and over he lived the moment when Atreyu had set the point of his sword to his chest. And for the first time he asked himself why Atreyu hesitated. Why, after all that had happened, couldn’t he bring himself to strike bastian and take AURYN by force? And suddenly Bastian thought of the wound he had inflicted n Atreyu and the look in Atreyu’s eyes as he staggered and fell (Ende 375-376). After Bastian thought about the horrible crime he had committed, he came to realize that what he did was very wrong. Atreyu hesitated bec ause he felt sympathy for his friend even after all that Bastian had done to him. Bastian changed from being angry at his friend for the damage he had caused to feeling guilty for selfishly stabbing Atreyu. The battle for the Ivory Tower also added to the message that what Bastian did to Atreyu was very wrong and he should be shameful, â€Å"His victory left him with a itter taste in his mouth, but at the same time he felt wildly triumphant† (Ende 371). What Bastian did was a very selfish and horrible thing to do to someone who is just trying to help him. This event gets across the message that although Bastian defeated Atreyu, he should be immensely dishonoured of the the horrible thing he did. The City of Old Emperors The City of Old Emperors is a very important event in the plot of the novel. In the City of Old Emperors, Bastian learns what happens to all of the humans who come to Fantastica and try to crown themselves Emperor:Bastian saw a boy with a heavy hammer trying t o drive nails into a pair of socks. A fat man was trying to past postage stamps on soap bubbles. They kept bursting, but he went on blowing new ones (Ende 381). The City of Old Emperors is a very important event in the plot of the novel because that is where Bastian learns that if he continues making wishes, he will lose all of his memories. With no memories, Bastian can’t make anymore wishes. With no more wishes, AURYN disappears. If AURYN disappears, then Bastian will end up in the City of Old Emperors with no memory of anything. The City of Old Emperors is also very important to the development of Bastian as a character. Bastian went through a change when he learned about the City of Old Emperors. He started out very confused: For a while Bastian stood motionless. He was so stunned by what he had just heard that he couldn’t decide what to do. All his plans had collapsed at one stroke (Ende 384). When Bastian realized that he was taking advantage of Moon Child’ s powers and AURYN, he thought about what he had done to Atreyu at the battle for the Ivory Tower: Bastian dug into the earth with both hands. When the hole was big enough, he unslung the sword Sikanda and put it in. â€Å"Sikanda,† he said. â€Å"I am taking leave of you forever. Never again shall anyone draw you against a friend. No one shall find you until what you and I have done is forgotten† (Ende 385). After Bastian once again thought about the horrible thing he had done to Atreyu, he discovered that the right thing to do was burying Sikanda forever. Bastian changed from being very confused and unsure of what he should do next, to someone who knew exactly what the right thing to do is.The City of Old Emperors added to the message that Bastian learned that he was using AURYN to make too many wishes: Batstian watched a man who had lathered a mirror and was starting to shave it. Once that might have struck him as funny; now it made him break out in gooseflesh (Ende 380). Because Bastian has made many wishes, he has lost a lot of memories from his own world. The sight of the man trying to shave a mirror because he had no memories, gave Bastian goose bumps because he is worried that it could happen to him. This event gets across the message that Bastian has learned that he has made too many wishes.
